About Me

Jaime Raglow Gannon is a Chicago-based artist specializing in floral pieces that bring joy to your home

Thank you for spending some time with The Jaime Elaine Creative today! My name is Jaime, and I am an Akron, Ohio native who has made Chicago her home for the past 13+ years. After graduating with a BA in Theatre and a BA in Dance from Loyola University Chicago in 2015, I didn’t know exactly where I wanted to take my career. I just knew that it needed to involve art. I nannied, worked in restaurants, taught in dance studios, and performed here and there. I learned that I love to work with kids, and I am the happiest when there is some variety in my day-to-day life.

And then–Covid. I lost over half the classes I was teaching at the time, and I needed a creative outlet. I had only dabbled in painting here and there before this, but I took an online watercolor workshop with Paige Lindsey Design, and my life changed! What started as me sending floral greeting cards to my friends and family grew so much that I officially started my business, The Jaime Elaine Creative, in January 2022.

Now, through The Jaime Elaine Creative, you can hire me to paint live at your wedding, commission a custom wedding bouquet painting, book a corporate painting class for your department’s happy hour, hire me to help create a wedding dance to make your big day special, schedule private at-home yoga classes, book a painting and dance birthday party for your kiddo, and so so much more! I don’t have to sacrifice the variety that I love because The Jaime Elaine Creative is here for all your art needs!

The Jaime Elaine Creative Gives Back

Community support, Mental Health, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion are just some causes I care deeply about. As a white woman, I do my best to listen to and learn from the experiences of others to find out how to use my voice and small platform to disrupt systemic issues in our society.  I want to use my skills and gifts to speak up, fight for others, and give back the best ways I know how. I deeply believe that art is healing and beneficial for every age.

In my classes with young kids, I like to focus on emphasizing Social and Emotional learning, using movement and creativity to breech difficult subjects with kids (it is never too early to talk to kids about what is happening in the world around us), teaching about and lifting up our beautiful differences, and emphasizing kind ways to interact with others. Dance especially can be a great way to express emotions and learn to name them which is so crucial. I do my best to use my skills not only to create a fun environment, but also to teach young people how they can use their bodies and voices for others too.

When I started painting more seriously and selling my art in 2020, I decided I didn’t only want to create art that might brighten someone’s home and bring joy, but also use my art to give back. I have since done my best to raffle off a painting for a different organization at least once a year.  I like to think of it a bit like mutual aid. With small contributions from multiple people (in this case, taking the form of raffle tickets), our money can go just that much further toward creating change. And someone wins a pretty painting in the process!

Sustainability Efforts

As a small business owner, I do my very best to implement sustainable business practices. I am constantly learning new ways to better my business and lower my environmental impact. I unfortunately cannot change the fact that acrylic paint is plastic, but the paintings that I create are heirlooms that aren’t headed to the landfill any time soon! I welcome kind and productive feedback to better my sustainability efforts, so feel free to reach out if you have suggestions or tips.

My sustainable practices include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Homemade paper: I make some of my own paper out of egg cartons, boxes, and junk mail. I use this paper for some of my watercolor pieces, and hope to create wedding art with it soon as well!
  • Recycling: Any paper products that cannot be made into homemade paper gets either reused, composted, or recycled.
  • Composting: I work from home and use WasteNot Composting to sustainably dispose of all food scraps and organic materials including qualifying paper products and commercially compostable materials..
  • Shipping materials: I save almost every piece of packaging I receive and use this to wrap my paintings for local delivery and ship my art. We love a cute unboxing video, but I’d much rather my packages look a little wonky and be environmentally friendly than look perfect but be unsustainable.
  • Leftover paint: Whenever there is paint left on my palette, I let it dry and peel it off instead of washing wet paint down the sink. (I have even been saving my paint scraps for a few years now, and I’m looking for ways I might be able to use them! Suggestions welcome). I also try to wipe off my brushes on a towel before rinsing them to reduce the paint that gets into the water.

Other efforts I am beginning to implement or working toward are:

  • Energy efficient lighting. I already use many energy efficient bulbs in my home, but I am working on an inventory of all of our lightbulbs to verify this, as some are still from the previous owner of our condo. Meanwhile, I do my best to always turn lights off when I leave any room.
  • Stretching more of my own canvases. I stretched my own canvas for the first time last year, and would like to move toward this option to avoid pre-stretched canvases which are typically wrapped in plastic.
  • Commercially compostable protective packaging. Until recently, I have protected my watercolor art, cards, and prints using plastic sleeves. However, I found a compostable cellulose version of this product and am in the process of transitioning to that product exclusively.
  • Paint water reuse. I have been experimenting with trying to filter the paint out of my paint water. While my system is quite imperfect, I think it’s better than nothing! It allows me to reuse my paint water a little longer.
